This is what life is meant to feel like—joy can be so simple
Reflections of a Man Who Rediscovered Life in Middle Age
As I reach middle age, I often find myself asking: What kind of life do I truly need? How should I plan the years ahead?

In Laos, I came to a sudden realization: happiness can be this simple. True peace comes from within-this is how life ought to be.

During the water festival, the streets were filled with people, every face glowing with bright smiles. Regardless of skin color, language, or beliefs, everyone was warm, everyone was kind, everyone radiated joy from the inside out. Immersed in this atmosphere, even I—with my prominent belly—joined the water battles. I picked up a hose from a street-side shop and sprayed strangers passing by. They gladly accepted my blessing, dancing happily in response. I no longer felt like a tourist. Men and women, young and old, were swept up in the celebration—without a worry, as if nothing could disrupt their happiness.

The days of finding happiness in material possessions are long gone. Looking back, in the pursuit of material wealth, I missed many moments of my children's growth, lacked companionship with my family, and lost sight of my own dreams. Although my material life was fulfilling, I became numbed by work and the pursuit of material things, forgetting the true meaning of life. For a long time, I failed to experience true freedom and happiness.

I'm halfway through my life, but there are still too many shortcomings. Everyone wants their life to be perfect, but it often goes against their wishes. The essence of life is freedom and happiness. Freedom in life and time are the most important things, and making peace with myself. I've reached a turning point in my life. How can I live my ideal life next?

In Laos, I found my way to spend my leisure time.
Free, simple, joyful, and blissful
I've chosen to settle in Laos!
From now on, I'll ask my heart for answers.

Vientiane, Laos, is perhaps one of the safest, happiest, and least insular capitals in the world. Here, I never have to worry about food safety; every dish evokes childhood taste buds—that's the way food should be. I know this might not resonate with you, but there are some things that only those who have experienced firsthand can truly understand and speak for themselves.
I simply hope you'll find time to visit Vientiane, Laos. Vientiane, Laos, is the most worthwhile city in the world to spend a week in.

Life is short and precious, but we only live once. Spending your precious time on meaningful people and things, even if there are regrets, is definitely worth it.
Life is like a journey of self-cultivation. Through constant experimentation, correction, and reflection, while also appreciating the scenery along the way, we can discover the kind of life we truly desire.

I choose to live each day happily, just like the people of Vientiane, Laos. True happiness is the essence of life.
I'm hopelessly captivated by Vientiane.
