Laos, a traditional “land locked country,” has just made a critical move on the international railway map! On June 11, at the 53rd Ministerial Meeting of the Organisation for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) held in Tajikistan, a Lao delegation led by Deputy Minister Yabaxong officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join the “OSJD Railway Corridor No. 2.”

The corridor connects six countries—China, Vietnam, Laos, Kazakhstan, Russia and Estonia—making it a milestone of great significance!

From “Land Locked” to “Land Linked”

The Key to Laos's Transformation

With its mountainous terrain and no seaport in the past, Laos’s economic development was long constrained by geographical bottlenecks. The opening of the China Laos railway was the first leap – “when roads open, wealth flows.” This accession to Corridor No. 2 marks a qualitative upgrade, transforming Laos’s railway from a “domestic single line” into an “an international rail network.” It truly turns “land locked” into “land linked.”

A Six Country Link

Why Is Laos the Key Piece?

China, Vietnam, Laos, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Estonia – stretching from Southeast Asia across Central Asia all the way to the Baltic Sea! This six country connection essentially opens another continental bridge from the Asia Pacific to Europe.

n this major corridor, the inclusion of Laos and Vietnam fills the critical gap in the Indochina Peninsula. Chinese made goods can reach Laos directly via the China Laos railway, then radiate eastward to Vietnam’s Haiphong Port and seamlessly connect northward to the Eurasian continental bridge. Laos sits right at the hub of this “crossroads,” capturing the dividends of transit trade!

Rule Alignment

Breaking the Bottleneck of “Connected but Not Smooth” Cross Border Railways

A key function of the OSJD is to harmonise rules and technical standards for cross border transport. By signing the memorandum, Laos officially aligns with international standards in gauge specifications, customs clearance procedures, and freight settlement. This is like not only building the road but also standardising traffic lights and navigation systems – ensuring that trains from all six countries run smoothly and swiftly.

In summary, joining Corridor No. 2 is, on the surface, an extension of transport cooperation, but in essence, it is a strategic breakthrough for Laos to deeply integrate into global supply chains.

When trains depart from Vientiane and roar all the way to Moscow and Tallinn, Laos not only connects with the world but also secures an irreplaceable seat at the table of regional connectivity!

As the Pan Asian Railway roars across mountains and rivers, Laos is transforming from a “land locked” to a “land linked” nation. The convergence of people, goods, and capital will inevitably lead the market to reassess the asset value of this hub city.

Laos Center, strategically positioned at the node of the China Laos Thailand Economic Corridor. Above the land linked hub, this skyline landmark stands as a timeless asset, rising together with the times.

Laos Center is located in the heart of Vientiane’s CBD, positioned as a landmark complex integrating high end commercial spaces, international Grade A office towers, a five star hotel, and executive luxury apartments.

With a peak height of approximately 155 metres, it becomes the tallest nationally iconic landmark ever planned in Laos. With comprehensive facilities and solid investment return prospects, Laos Center is redefining Vientiane’s high end living standards and asset allocation benchmarks.
